Kauai. The garden island. The island I’ve wanted to see the most. We saved the best for last. We were having trouble finding an affordable car in Kauai. I looked around for a week or so and the cheapest car I can find was $60+.. per day!! $60 we did not want to pay! Luckily we ran across this company called Discount Hawaii Car Rentals and they were able to get us in a compact car, with a free upgrade for just $40 bucks a day. And Bianca was eligible to drive with no extra fees! So if your coming down to Hawaii be sure to check out Hawaii car rentals. They are the friendliest people and they will help you get in the car or jeep you want. With multiple pick up locations on all the islands it comes really convenient. Fast and easy reservations. Shot them an email or call and they’ll have your car reserved for you in minutes, with free cancelations, and no need to pay then! Pay at pick up!
Being that they had all the recent flash floods, a lot of the roads and trails I wanted to check out were closed. We drove around the whole coast (that were open), form Hanalei all the way to the other end of the road on the opposite coast to Poloihale State Park. Being that 70% of the island is inaccessible by car and we drove 705 miles on this small island. I can pretty much say we saw the entire coastline. Kauai was definitely one of my top islands but I think the best Island award for me goes to Maui. It was no doubt a hard one to chose. Here are some photos I left this beautiful Kauai with.
Here’s the beast that got us around the whole island. While shooting sunset the car had an awesome purple glow. Looked pretty neat.
Here’s the pond I was shooting.
Many many years ago in ancient Hawaiian times, when the Menehune ran the land, they raised fish separately until they can swim open in this pond. Later they ate the fish and it was their main source of protein.
Down on Poipu Beach I wandered the beach before the sun even risen, looking for something to shot. I was stumped. I couldn’t find anything interesting. About to call it off I was walking back towards the car and thought to myself “let me walk a little further west to see what’s there.” I saw a bunch of rocks on the beach but this one looked different. Kinda looked like a turtle, so I walked towards it and sure enough it was a turtle on the shore fast asleep, not woken by me at all.
We met up with some kids Bianca found on Instagram, and we did a hike on the west side of the Island on the Na Pali Coast. It had to have been the most epic hike I’ve done in my life. The epic views and at times the trail was only a foot or to wide with shear drops to either side. Comforted be the views like this there was no way I was giving up. Ended up having an awesome sunset.
